Happy Halloween

Halloween is big business now compared to years ago when I was young!  Then, all we were concerned with was scooping out our turnips, complete with proper lighted candle and frightening ourselves silly listening to ghost stories.

Nowadays, children (and parents) make a big thing of Halloween, celebrating by having Halloween parties, dressing up, scooping out Pumpkins (whatever happened to the turnips???) and generally celebrating a day that may have (according to some scholars) began as a pagan festival.

According to Wikipedia, Halloween - also known as All Hallow's Eve is celebrated yearly on 31st October, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows.  Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins into Jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories and watching horror films.

Whatever you get up to on Halloween - have a good one.  Leave me a comment to say how (or if) you celebrate Halloween and if you are a follower of this blog, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  The draw takes place tomorrow - best of luck everyone.

NOEL Banner

I made this Noel Banner from some light weight chipboard sheets that had been packaging in a former life!

I cut triangle shapes from the chipboard using a Fiskars Finger Tip Craft Knife - eight triangles in all.  I based my banner design on the Tando Creative Scalloped Banner but as it was hand cut made the design straight on all pieces.

I painted the bigger banner pieces using red acrylic paint and covered the smaller triangle pieces in Bazzill Believe patterned paper.  I cut the letters out using the Cricut using the shadow function and Bazzill Ruby Slipper and Blackbird cardstock.  I mounted the letters onto shapes also cut on the Cricut using Bazzill Rain Forest cardstock.  I added some small red brads from my own stash and threaded through some string trim to finish.

Fab Finds

Like every crafter, when I see a bargain, I buy it!  These fab finds are from Wilkinsons.  For those blog followers who don't know who or what Wilkinson's is ... they are a high street retailer in the UK, who sell a variety of different products ranging from bath products, kitchen ware, paints and decorating etc.  They also have a stationery department - and look what I found recently:

These little finds cost just 60p for the stickers and £1.00 for 4 decorative paper clips!  There are 5 sheets of 26 alphabets, 4 pieces per alphabet on the sticker sheet pack and 4 fashion paper clips - that's 25p each clip!

I am not sure whether the stickers will be suitable for scrapbook layouts as it doesn't say whether they are acid and lignin free but I have used them on a layout for this month's DT Kit as the 'photograph' is actually a postcard!  They would be perfectly safe for cards and off the page projects as will the paper clips.

Do you like looking around stationers and pound shops (I think they are called dollar stores and thrift shops in the States)?  Leave a comment to let me know whether you have found some bargains for your crafting from other than a craft shop.  If you leave a comment on this post today and you are a follower of this blog (your details must show on the follower list on this page to qualify), I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for this month.  Thanks for stopping by.

Art Angel

Cosmo Cricket Art Angel range has just arrived at The Scrapbook Garden shop and you can find the lovely range here.  I love this range because it is full of lovely patterns that lend itself to scrapbooking, card making and probably most papercrafting.  This is what the Element Deck looks like inside:

The colour palette of this range is lovely shades of green, peach, cream with a touch of light brown.  I found this beautiful 'Artsy Angel' on the Cosmo Cricket blog - fabulous!

Delish Designs 6x6 Kit

The 6" x 6" chipboard album kit I used at the workshops at Creative Crafts, Gateshead at the weekend, are now available to buy here.  This is what you will get:

The kit contains 4 sheets of patterned papers from the Peppercorn range, along with a 6" x 6" chipboard album, die-cut fringed flower, button and string.  All you need to add is imagination on how you would decorate it.  Lisa's album from yesterday's blog post will give you some idea on how to decorate the front cover and there are plenty of sentiments and cut out shapes from the 'Buffet' patterned paper to use as embellishments on the inside.

Lisa's Mini Album

Thank you to everyone who attended the Creative Crafts Show at Gateshead International Stadium at the weekend.  On one of Sunday's workshops, a lovely lady (Lisa), created this gorgeous mjni album and kindly allowed me to photograph her creation and share it with you.

Lisa was very creative with her fringed flower die-cut and as you can see from the photograph and made a fab creation to decorate the front cover of her mini album.  Thanks for sharing this with us Lisa.

This is what they made (well almost - the one at the workshop was a square 6" x 6" - not tabbed as in photograph).  There were happy faces when they finished!  Thank you ladies for attending and creating something lovely.

I will be running two more workshops today - if you come along there are a few places left - they are not available to book online now.  Hope to see you at Gateshead Stadium today.

JOY

Joanne created this 8" x 8" layout using the Bazzill Christmas range called 'Believe'  These patterned papers are ideal for Christmas layouts as they are very traditional Christmas colours.

For this layout Joanne has used Bazzill 'Believe/Kraft Wrap' and  'Christmas Dress/Burlap Ticking'.   The little buttons are Dovecraft Christmas Vintage and the 'Mini Christmas Stockings' are  from the Tando Creative minis range.  The title is a felt word from her own stash.

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you leave a comment on this post today and you are a follower of this blog, your name will be entered into the draw for the blog candy.  Good luck!

PEACE

Another 8" x 8" layout from Joanne using the fab Bazzill 'Believe' patterned papers 'Believe/Kraft Wrap' and 'Countdown to Christmas/Chimney Dust'.  Joanne has also used Dovecraft Christmas Vintage Buttons to create the heart shape around the top edge of the photograph.

This paper line goes really well with Bazzill Kraft cardstock.  Just adding banners and metal ornaments adds extra dimension to the layout.

If you are a scrapbooker, do you like making your Christmas layouts in advance - just to pop your photographs on afterwards, or do you like to wait until the Christmas period is over and create your layouts then?  If you leave a comment on this post and you are a follower of this blog, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Best of luck!

Ready for Santa

My eldest daughter (Joanne) has carried on the Christmas Tradition of getting ready for Santa's arrival.  This layout shows her young daughters on Christmas Eve, bathed, new PJ's, and photograph taken by the Christmas tree.

Joanne created this layout (8" x 8") for a Christmas album she is making.  She used Bazzill Avalanche cardstock for the base of this layout and the patterned papers are a 'freebie' from a craft magazine.

The lovely little snowflakes, Christmas stockings and wonky trees are all Tando Creative Mini's - mini versions of their fab chipboard pieces.  Joanne has inked and glittered these pieces to add dimension and sparkle to her layout.

If you leave a comment for Joanne on this post today, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  You must be a follower of this blog to qualify.  Thanks for stopping by.

'Twas the night before Christmas'

This is another one of those traditional Christmas photographs I was on about yesterday.  This one taken a year later - still the same ritual as before, ready for bed and photograph taken beside the Christmas tree.

This time I used Bazzil French Vanilla cardstock as the base and layered this up with Bazzill Rain Forest cardstock.  I used Bazzill Believe range 'Christmas Dress' and 'Believe' patterned papers for the main body of the layout and used left over pieces from my stash for the Christmas Trees (I used a Bazzill Chips Christmas Tree shape, which I drew around and cut out).  I added some gems from my stash and some Dovecraft Vintage Buttons to the trees. The circular sentiments in the top right hand corner are from the Authentique 'Wonder' Noteables sheet.  The title is made from Dovecraft Glitter Alphabet Stickers.

Christmas Eve Tradition

When my daughters were little girls every Christmas Eve we would go through the same ritual.  They used to be so excited, waiting for Santa and knew that there was 'only one more sleep' before he arrived.  At bedtime, they used to have a bath and wear their brand new 'Christmas nightie and slippers' and have their photograph taken beside the Christmas Tree.

Obviously, as they got older they didn't want to join in the same 'childish traditions' but I think it's lovely to scrap those memories so they can remember these times when they get older.

This is a layout using one of those Christmas Eve photographs created using Prima North Country 'Red Deer' patterned paper as the base (used the reverse side), layered up with cream cardstock.  I used Prima North Country 'Glacier Roads' as the strips along the bottom of the photograph and for the banner shapes.  I used Dovecraft Vintage Buttons to add some dimension and 'sewed' along the inside of the cardstock with Twine.  The title is made from Black Dovecraft Glitter Alphabets.

Do you have any little 'Christmas Traditions' that you share with your family.  Leave a comment and let me know and if you are a follower of this blog, I will enter your name into the draw for the blog candy.  Thanks for stopping by.

Grace Taylor Albums - now in stock!

The fab Grace Taylor Albums I had on order are now in stock and can be viewed here.  These albums have the SnapLoad technology system from Grant Archival, which means you can easily add or remove pages from either the front or back of the album without pulling it apart.  It's quick, easy and you don't have to worry about screw post extensions.

This Polka Dot design is one of my favourites - it's classy but retro at the same time!

These have been very popular and I am out-of-stock on one of the designs - more are on order though.  If you leave a comment on this post today and you are a follower of this blog, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Thanks for stopping by.

Design Team: Dad

Jaqi has used a lovely vintage photograph of her Dad for this second layout she has created this month using the fabulous patterned paper from Teresa Collins Vintage Finds range as well as the Vintage Finds Trims.

Using Bazzill Tawny Light cardstock as the base Jaqi has added a series of holes along the bottom edge of the layout, threaded through with two of the Trims from the pack.  Jaqi has used the ribbon from the pack and has inked this to darken it down with a Dew Drop Rich Cocoa Ink Pad.

Using the Vintage Finds 'Flowers' patterned paper and some of the Bazzill Walnut Cream cardstock, Jaqi has created the 'open book' look on her layout.  The tags have been die-cut from patterned paper and cardstock and threaded through with the striped twine from the Trims pack.

Design Team: It's Spooky

Jaqi is designing for the Team this month and this is her first layout using the Teresa Collins Vintage Finds patterned papers and Teresa Collins Vintage Finds Trims.

Jaqi used the Vintage Finds 'Clocks' patterned paper (used the reverse side) as the base for this layout.  Her photograph was matted onto some Bazzill Coal Cardstock, which was torn away at the bottom to create a ragged edge.  This was then matted onto some of the Bazzill Cheddar Cardstock.

Using the coarse string from the Vintage Finds Trims, Jaqi has threaded some through two corners of the layout and on the bottom of the Bazzill Coal Cardstock to add texture to the layout.  The title, spiders, bats and lace edging were all die-cut from the Bazzill Coal Cardstock.

Another one of Jaqi's fabulous vintage photographs was used in this layout - perfect for this Halloween themed layout!

If you leave a comment for Jaqi today and you are a follower of this blog, you will be entered into the blog candy draw for this month.  Best of luck!

Sunday best

This is the third layout I have created using the fabulous Teresa Collins Vintage Finds patterned papers and Trims in this month's Design Team Kit.

I used Bazzill Tawny Light Cardstock as the base (gutted out the middle), layered this up with Bazzill Coal Cardstock (gutted out the middle), Flowers patterned paper, Bazzill Walnut Cream Cardstock and finally matted the photograph onto Bazzill Coal Cardstock.

I wrapped a length of the ribbon trim from the pack across the bottom of the Walnut Cream cardstock before adhering to the layout and added some flowers and brads from my own stash.  I threaded the striped twine around the inside of the Flowers patterned paper and made two banners for the top right hand side of the layout.

The Vintage Finds Sticker Sheet is an optional extra to the kit and the MME Alpha chipboard stickers and Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type Alphas were added as the title.  The two hearts were punched using a Dovecraft paper punch from some left over patterned paper.

Product Review: Vintage Finds Trims

If you arrived here for the Tando Creative Blog Hop you will see the relevant post here.

The brand new Teresa Collins Vintage Finds range is an absolute delight!  I have been working for the past couple of days with the Design Team Kit that includes patterned papers from this range.  The papers themselves are fabulous in that the 12" x 12" size are cardstock weight and have a lovely texture to them.

I have also been working with the Vintage Finds Trims and thought I would do a review on how I found the product:

Firstly, the pack contains 20 yards of Twine - 10 yards of a candy stripe in caramel and white and 10 yards of a string type twine.  There is also 2 yards of seam binding, which is like ribbon and has a lovely sheen.

I used the striped twine on my layout '800 years young' and stitched using a template and needle.  I found that the twine worked better when using a bigger sewing needle as otherwise it tends to unravel as you sew through the paper and card.

The string like twine has a very coarse texture but great for using as I did in my Halloween layout, threading through chipboard shapes.

The seam binding I used to wrap around some cardstock (I will show this layout on Monday) and like I said earlier it is really a ribbon and has a lovely sheen.

Value for money:  I have used some of each of the trims on three layouts and I still have plenty left over.  The beauty of this pack is the colour combinations.  As the Vintage Finds Trims are a neutral colour they will co-ordinate with several other projects.

Teresa Collins also has the trims in the Christmas Cottage range and these too contain the same amounts of twine and seam binding as the Vintage Finds range.  These contain a lovely Christmas red seam binding, red and white candy stripe twine and the string type twine.  I will be using the Teresa Collins Christmas Cottage Collection Kit on the scrapbooking day I am hosting in December, so will let you know how I get on with that.

Making of The Printer Tray Clock

If you have arrived here to participate in the Tando Creative Blog Hop you will find the relevant post here.

I have had a request for some guidance in making up the Tando Creative Printer Tray Style Clock, so I decided to put together some instructions and you can find them here.

The Printer Tray Style Clock starts out life as two pieces of circular chipboard shapes, two stand pieces and a clock mechanism and looks like this:

There are, of course several different ways in which you can decorate this clock and the instructions I have given are for the Printer Tray Style Clock that I made for the Blog Hop on Monday.

As well as instructions for this clock I also have included in the Pages section of this blog (under Recipe Cards), instructions on how to make up a layout for a Baby Boy page.  I have now had time to put the instructions on for the 'Sweet Heart' layout I made earlier along with 'My Handbag Obsession' layout.  The instructions can be found on the left hand side of this screen under 'Pages' and then then relevant 'Recipe Cards'.

I hope these are of interest to you and that it may give you some extra inspiration or you may even want to try them yourself.  Any questions relating to these 'Recipe Cards' just leave a question on this blog or email me at ann@thescrapbookgarden.co.uk

800 Years Young

If you have arrived here looking for the Tando Creative Blog Hop post you can find it here.

This is the second layout I have created using this month's Design Team Kit using the fabulous Teresa Collins Vintage Finds patterned papers called Flowers and Clocks.  The technique this month is using Twine (or Trims to be exact) using the equally fabulous Vintage Finds Trims.

I used Bazzill 'Coal' Cardstock as the base (and gutted the centre), layered this up with a section of Bazzill 'Walnut Cream' Cardstock and then a section of Bazzill 'Tawny Light' Cardstock.  I cut two oblongs of patterned paper from the two patterned paper sheets to fit alongside the photograph (well it is a postcard really).

The clock face is cut from the 'Clocks' patterned paper.  I added some Vintage Finds Stickers at the top left of the photograph and made a journal card with an off-cut of Kraft Cardstock and some of the Twine from the Trims pack.

I added a flower and brad from my own stash and using a template for guidance, I hand stitched the leaves using some of the Twine from the pack.  The title is made up from American Crafts Thickers and Cosmo Cricket Tiny Alphabet Stickers.

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you are a follower of this blog and you leave a comment on this post (today only) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Best of luck everyone.

Design Team Kit for September

If you have landed here today to join in the Tando Creative Blog Hop you can find the relevant post here.

Last month the Design Team created several layouts (that were featured on this blog) using the fab Fancy Pants Country Boutique papers, corrugate kraft card and Banner Cuts.

I have one Design Team Kit left over from last month and I you can find it in the shop here.

The kit contains 1 x Fancy pants Country Bracket 12" x 12" patterned paper, 1 x Fancy pants Poppy 12" x 12" patterned paper, 1 x Country Boutique 12" x 12" Banner Cuts Sheet and 1 x Fancy Pants 12" x 12" Kraft Corrugated Sheet.

There is also 1 sheet each of Bazzill 12" x 12" cardstock in Blackbird, Fig Swirl and Walnut Cream.  Instructions on how to make two layouts are also included but the template I used, pearl brads, alphabet stickers and string are NOT included as these were extras from my own stash.

You will also have to add another sheet of Bazzill Blackbird 12" x 12" cardstock if you wish to do both layouts.

Thanks for stopping by.  Please leave a comment and if you qualify, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for this month.

The Witch'n Hour

If you came to this blog via Barjan B Crafts or Tando Creative to join in the Tando Birthday Blog Hop you will find it here.

This month's Design Team Kit conists of patterned papers from Teresa Collins Vintage Finds range called 'Flowers' and 'Clocks', Bazzill Cardstock in Coal, Cheddar, Tawny Light and Walnut Cream.  The technique this month is using the Teresa Collins Vintage Finds Trims.  This is the first layout for this month using the kit:

I used the Bazzill Cheddar Cardstock as the base (gutted out the centre) and used a Tando Creative Mask (Cobweb) and a Ranger Distress Ink Pad in Black Soot to ink the image onto the cardstock.  I layered this up with some Bazzill Coal cardstock and a section from the 'Clocks' patterned paper (reverse side).  The photograph was matted onto some of the Bazzill Cheddar cardstock.  The clock was fussy cut from the 'Clocks' patterned paper and used as a base for the title.

The pumpkins are from Tando Creative, which I painted with some acrylic paint from my stash.  I added the lines with a Zig Pen to add to the character of the pumpkins!  The cobweb was inked using the Black Soot inkpad and I added a chipboard sticker from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you leave a comment on this post (today only) and you are a follower of this blog, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for this month.  Best of luck everyone!

Tando Creative Birthday Blog Hop

If you've arrived here from Barjan B Crafts you are on the right track.  If you would like a chance to win some fabulous Tando Creative products, please join the hop and start back at the Tando Creative BlogThe next stop on the hop is at Creative Craft World.

When Di from Tando asked who would like to join this blog hop I jumped at the chance because I just love all things Tando!  You can see from the left hand side of this page that I have a (little teensy) addiction to the Tando Desktop Storage handbags!  Today though, I want to show you what I made using one of the fab new ranges from Tando ... Tando Chipboard Clocks!

These chipboard clocks come complete with clock mechanism - all you have to add is the battery - and decorate them of course!

I chose the Printer Tray Style Clock to showcase today using Prima 'Craftsman' patterned papers to decorate.  The chipboard elements I used are Come Fly with Me from the Works of Parts Range.  The cogs are Hearts Cogs Mix and the clock face is a stamp from Crafty Individuals.

There are loads of variations you could use to decorate this clock - you could use the Andy Skinner Clock Class Accessory Kit that was used in his workshop to decorate the Carriage Style Clock.  The Cuckoo Clock is another favourite of mine and you can see that one decorated here.

If you are visiting this blog today to enter The Scrapbook Garden Blog Candy giveaway, please leave a comment as usual and you will be entered in the blog candy draw for today. You must be a follower of this blog to enter (see rules).   Thanks for stopping by and good luck in the Blog Hop and The Scrapbook Garden Blog Candy giveaway.
