Scrapbooking and photography!

Does scrapbooking make you a better photographer?  That is a question that has often come into my thoughts since I 'found' scrapbooking!  Pre-scrapping days I just snapped away merrily not giving the photograph much thought (that's why there aren't many 'older' photographs in my layouts).  Since I found the fantastic art of scrapbooking I look through the lens with much more precision and care.  Mind you, the new digital cameras do tend to help a lot ... being able to see what the photograph looks like before you actually print it out is a massive plus.

That said, scrapbooking is all about capturing your memories ...  right? (whatever they are), so I suppose the quality of the photograph should be irrelevant!    Just a thought!  What do you think?  Leave a comment on this post (today only) and (if you qualify) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Thanks for stopping by today.

New scrapbook magazine

I came across a new scrapbook magazine the other day - well I had actually seen it a while ago but resisted buying it!  It's called Scrap 365 and is for ... well ... scrappers who do it every day! (their words not mine).  It's not the same as my usual Scrapbook Magazine in that the format is different and it has a distinctly European feel about it - rather refreshing really.

There is an article in the latest edition on a beautiful Paris inspired printer tray as well as details on how to make a 'flag book' using Echo Park patterned papers.  It really inspired me to create something with a combination of the two .... a flag book using the gorgeous Prima En Francais Collection.  All I need now is to find the time!

There seems to be a lot of 'French' influences around in the patterned papers and embellishments at the moment.  I have been to loads of different places in the world but France has eluded me so far ... perhaps I need to plan a trip so that I can take loads of different photographs to fill my newly made (and as yet still in my thoughts) French inspired flag book!

What things have inspired you lately?  Leave a comment today and (if you qualify) I will give you 1 entry into the blog candy draw.  Not long now until the winner is draw.  Best of luck everyone.

This is a small portion of the other layout that we will be creating on the day, made from the same patterned papers as the one I showed you yesterday.  If anyone recognises the patterned papers I have used - leave a comment to say what it is and I will give you 2 entries into the blog (the first correct answer will be accepted only).

As usual you have to be a follower of this blog.  Everyone else who leaves a comment today (and is a follower) will get the usual 1 entry.  Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment.

A little sneaky peek!

I have been busy, busy, busy getting ready for the forthcoming event I am hosting for National Scrapbooking Day on 5th May 2012.  I thought I would take some time out of the quiz and give everyone a breather - all that running around (virtual running that is) looking for treasure!!!  Anyhow, I have been busy making layouts for the day and have done two layouts, complete with instructions for the ladies to make (if they wish to).  I thought I would give you a little sneaky peek at one of them today:

I will fully reveal the layout once we have had the event - that keeps the mystery going a bit longer for those who are attending!  All I will say is that the paper products I have used all come from The Scrapbook Garden and are available to buy.

It is not long now until the blog candy is drawn - everyone who leaves a comment on this post today will get 2 entries into the draw - they all help!  Thanks for stopping by and having a look.

Today we are going to do something slightly different.  It is still looking for something in The Scrapbook Garden shop but it is more of a 'treasure hunt' looking for a product - I will explain:

Q11:  I have 'hidden' something in the shop and I need you to find it.  The item is marked as 'out of stock' and it is also price marked at £0.00 (no-one can buy this as I have no stock left).  All I will give you is a clue:

April Quiz: Q10

I got a bit distracted yesterday showing you the little handbag I had made for the National Scrapbooking Day event I am hosting in May.  I have to also apologise for the problems some people had trying to access my Facebook page.  Thankfully, it is sorted now (isn't technology great!!!).  So, back with the quiz question for today.Yesterday I uploaded some new products to the website shop at www.thescrapbookgarden.co.uk and here is one of them:

This is from the brand new Bazzill Vintage Marketplace collection and is called Vintage Wallpaper/Polka Dot Bedding (as it is double-sided).

Q10: Give me the name and price of one of the new products (excluding this one) that I have just uploaded yesterday (you will have to go into the item and the date is shown in the item description).  If you give me a correct answer you will get 2 entries into the draw for today if you qualify (please see rules).  Thanks for stopping by today and the best of luck to you all.

Another Tando Creative Handbag

I made this Tando Creative Desktop Storage Handbag for the National Scrapbooking Day I am hosting (for 20 ladies) on Saturday 5th May at a local Church Hall.  There is a session where the ladies will be making one similar on the day (this is an example).

I used the fab new Glitz Design Pretty In Pink range (Roses and Stripe) for this bag.  I made a rosette (of course) and added a wooden button threaded through with string, a couple of decorative pins and a puffball of Bazzill Tulle Ribbon in Tink Pink.

If you fancy getting your hands on one of these little lovelies (the un-covered chipboard one), I have one to give away!  This is an extra giveaway to the usual quiz.  All you have to do is click on the Facebook link (to the left of this screen) and once signed into Facebook, click on the 'Like' button on the top right of the page.  Your name will be entered into a draw and once I reach 50 'Likers' the handbag will be given away to whoever's name is drawn out.  You need to be on Facebook to enter.  If any of your friends would be interested, please let them know or post about it on your blog.

Any comments left here, I will give you 1 entry into the draw on this blog for this month.  Thanks for stopping by today.

April Quiz: Q1

For the remainder of April I thought we would have a quiz (get those little grey cells working!).  The quiz will require you to go into The Scrapbook Garden shop.  You do not need to log in or leave any personal details but you do need to go into this website on a daily basis to answer the questions.  I will be asking questions about products and other information that can only be found by going into the shop.

Bazzill Two Scoops range is a colourful, textured cardstock, which can be torn, embossed, distressed, inked or sanded.  Each 12" x 12" sheet has a delicious sounding name with two yummy colours all rolled into one.

Q1:  Give me the name of one of the colours I have in stock at the moment.  You will have to go into www.thescrapbookgarden.co.uk to check if there is stock available. (It will say 'out of stock' on the page if unavailable).  If you give me the name of the embossed texture also, I will give you another entry (2 entries in total) into the draw.

Example: Black Raspberry (colour above) is a colour in stock and the embossed texture is called 'Cathedral Window' (Please do not use this example as an answer as it will not be valid).

If you leave an answer (today only) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Usual rules still apply.  Thanks for stopping by and taking part.  Pop back tomorrow for other chances to be entered into the draw.  Best of luck!

Where to Next

Today I decided to use some of the fab new patterned papers from the Cosmo Cricket 'Tea for Two' range.  I started with Bazzill French Vanilla cardstock for the base.  I then used 'Tea for Two' Rose Petal Jam (used both sides) and layered them up.  The photograph was matted onto co-ordinating cardstock.

The rosettes were made from 'Tea for Two' Tea Towel (used reverse side).  The patterned strips across the top and bottom of the layout is from the Cosmo Cricket Evangeline collection Sticker Sheet.  The title is made (once again) from the Prima Tiny Alphabet Stickers and MME Lush  Chipboard Alphabet Stickers.

Feel free to leave a comment.  If you leave one today on this post I will enter your name into the draw for this month.  To qualify see rules of entry.  Thanks for stopping by today.

Perfect POSE

Last week on this blog, Jules created a layout with the title 'Jealous Girl'.  I have created this scrapbook page today using a similar layout (thanks Jules for the inspiration).

Using Bazzill French Vanilla for the base, I layered up Evangeline Tapestry patterned papers (used both sides) and matted my photograph onto some more French Vanilla cardstock.

The strip along the bottom of the papers is from the Evangeline Sticker Sheet, as is the small journal sticker on the bottom right hand of the layout.  I made some banners from various pieces of patterned papers from the range (Rose, Dandelion, Tapestry) and cut some flowers using the Tim Holtz Alterations Die called Tattered Florals.  I added a small button to the centre of the larger flower and a sticker from the sheet to the smaller one.

The title is made from a combination of small letters from the Prima Tiny Alphabet Stickers Sheet and MME Lush chipboard alphabets.

Thanks for stopping by today.  If you leave a comment I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  Rules of entry apply.

Take 5 in Florida

After creating 'Boys' layouts using the fab new Echo Park Mini Theme Collection kit, I thought it was time for a change and decided to see what the Cosmo Cricket Evangeline collection looked like made up.  For this first layout I used Evangeline Tapestry (used both sides) to mat the photograph.  This was then matted onto green cardstock, then Bazzill French Vanilla.

The larger of the butterflies was cut from Evangeline 'Rose' patterned paper.  The other smaller butterfly is from the Evangeline Sticker Sheet that co-ordinates with this range.  I pleated a strip of paper from the Evangeline 'Sashing' patterned sheet and stuck this along the bottom of the layout.  The strip above this is from the sticker sheet also.  I made the 3D Fringed Flower using a Sizzix Die on the Big Shot and Evangeline 'Tapestry' patterned papers.  The large brad in the centre is from my own stash.

The title is made from a combination of Prima Tiny Alphabet Stickers and My Mind's Eye Lush chipboard alphabet stickers.

If you leave a comment (today only) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw.  See rules please.  Thanks for stopping by today.

(100%) BOY

This is the final layout (no. 4) that I have made from the Echo Park Theme Kit 'Boys'.  I still have some little pieces of patterned paper and a few of the stickers left.  For £6.99 that is good going seeing that I have used quite a bit of the paper on each layout!

I used Bazzill Avalanche cardstock (again) for the base as the patterned papers stand out quite nicely against this background.  I used the reverse of the 'Journaling' (dark blue), the 'Striped' and the 'Arrows' patterned papers for this layout.  I made a layered, fringed flower (that doesn't look too girly) and added a small button to the centre.  I resisted adding another rosette.

The title is part American Crafts Thickers in Jewelry Box (black) and 3 little hearts with the stickers added to spell the word BOY.  I used a Dovecraft 1.5" heart punch for the hearts, added a staple in the middle and folded them and stuck only one side down to add a bit of dimension to the page.  I added the 'Love' sticker to a piece of card and added that using some double-sided foam tape.

Over the past few days I have showcased four different layouts using the patterned papers from the 'Boys' Mini Theme Kit from Echo Park.  There are other themes to choose from - pop over to the shop and have a look!

If you leave me a comment today I will enter your name into the draw for the blog candy.  Please ensure you read the rules to qualify.  Thank you for stopping by.

Just foolin'

Layout number 3 from this fab kit from Echo Park Mini Theme collection called 'Boys'.  There are 6 patterned papers (all double-sided) to choose from.  For this layout I used Bazzill Avalanche cardstock for the base and layered up using a piece of the 'Stripe' paper and a small oblong of the 'Arrows' paper along the bottom edge.  I added a small strip of the reverse side of the journaling paper, which is a really dark blue and attached this over the two pieces of patterned paper near the bottom edge of the layout.

The banners are cut from the same dark blue paper and the reverse of the 'Arrows' paper, which is a green/white dotted pattern.  I added the star stickers from the pack and a couple of black brads from my own stash.  The American Crafts Thickers are from my own stash too.

Leave a comment to say you have passed by this way and I will enter your name into the draw for this month.  Please see rules to qualify.  Thank you.

Boys Will Be Boys

This is the second layout I have created using patterned papers and stickers from the Echo Park Mini Theme Kit aptly named 'Boys'.  I used Bazzill Avalanche for the background this time and drew a line around the outer side of the card to create a frame for the layout.

I layered the base with a piece of 'Stripe' patterned paper on the top (used reverse side) and another piece of the same paper on the bottom (I cut out a notch in this piece).  The journaling sheet has loads of different sentiments and journal cards to choose from and I cut out the title of this layout 'Boys Will Be Boys' and added that across the two pieces of striped papers.

The arrow and other elements are from the sticker sheet.  I also made up 3 rosettes using left over pieces of patterned papers and added a sticker in the middle of each one.

If you leave a comment on this post (and you qualify) I will enter your name into the draw for this month.  Thanks for stopping by today and good luck!

On My Way!

I created this layout using the BRAND NEW Echo Park Mini Theme kit called 'Boys'.  The kits in these collections all contain 6 sheets of patterned paper (2 sheets of 3 double-sided designs) and a sticker sheet with co-ordinating words, phrases and embellishments.

I used the reverse side of one of the journaling sheets as the base (which I gutted) before layering up with a rectangle of  'Arrows' patterned paper.  The green dotted paper is the reverse side of the 'Arrows' pattern and gives a lovely contrast to the different blue shades.  I added a strip of 'Stripe' pattern paper along the left hand side and made a rosette from the reverse side of the 'Stripe' paper.

All the embellishments on the layout are from the sticker sheet, some of which I mounted onto card to give extra dimension.  The title is made from American Crafts Thickers Jewelry Box in white.

Leave a comment to get your name added into the draw for this month's brand new blog candy (remember - see rules to qualify).  Thanks for stopping by.
