LOVE Life

This layout was created using patterned paper from August's Scrapaholix Kit. The kit technique this month is using wooden ornaments. I have used three of these wooden ornaments in this layout (2 butterflies and a flower shape). I just added some ZVA Creative gems in blue to the butterfly bodies and antennae and coloured in the flower with a Zig pen and added a crystal gem in the middle.I scraplifted this design from the Scrapbook Magazine (Issue 56, page 48 - Budget Challenge), which used a paint effect using corrugated card on the base of the white cardstock. I used a paint dabber (Jenni Bowlin for Ranger called 'Chicken Feed'). The original layout used white cardstock for the base but I cut my card down to 11" x 11" and matted it onto some Bazzill 'Mango' cardstock, then added some faux stitching.

The patterned papers this month are from Dovecraft (Sugar & Spice) and I chose the striped paper for the shaped piece. To get the shape I drew around a template and inked the edges. I then layered the shaped patterned paper to the left of the corrugated paint effect (once dry of course). I layered my photograph onto some brown card (from the kit) and added to the layout, overlapping the shaped panel paper.

The title (Life), other butterflies and little glittered flowers are stickers from Simply Creative and I used 'Owls and Trees' (and they only cost £1 each pack!). The word 'LOVE' in the title are cardstock alphabet stickers (coloured using a Zig pen in Pure Brown). I added some flowers to the left hand side of the photograph cut from one of the other patterned papers in the kit, which I decoupaged before adding to the layout. Finally, I added photograph details in the lower right of the page.

I am considering entering this layout for the papercraft qualification unit - so if you have time, please leave your feedback as you did the other day (and get 2 entries into the blog candy draw). Thanking you so much.

Wedding in Las Vegas

This is one of the layouts I created for the first unit of the Papercraft qualification. This has already been assessed, so it is just for showing today!I used Crate Paper 'Portrait Collection' patterned papers for this layout as it has a 'wedding' theme. I used 'Vintage Lace' for the base (I sanded the edges), then layered this up with 'Pearls' patterned paper and cut into the scalloped lace edge. This was then layered with 'Bouquet' patterned paper and the dotted paper at the edge is the other side of the 'Pearls' paper.

The photographs were matted onto 'Something Blue' (reverse side). I made the 'Wedding' in the title from one of the accent cuts from the range and matted this onto some of the 'Pearls' paper, to which I added faux stitching. I used one of the blank accent cuts to add the reminder of the title using rub-ons and cardstock stickers.

The flowers I made by cutting flowers from a Sizzix die on my Big Shot. These were layered up and I added a pearl gem in the middle. The pearl swirl I made by using a template (a magazine freebie) and some self-adhesive pearls in various sizes to make the swirl shape.

I appreciate your comments and for every one you leave I will enter your name into the blog candy draw (see rules).

Baby Boy

Today it is one of my layouts that I have to show you. This is one of my Grandson (one of the first photograph's taken). The reason for scrapping this layout is two-fold. Firstly, it is a family photograph and it will go into my family album. Secondly, I am presently creating layouts as part of a Paper Craft qualification and this is one that I will be submitting for Unit 4.As part of this unit I do need to get some feedback from other crafters on what they think of the layouts I have produced.

When I got feedback on the last unit I asked the members of the Boldon Scrapaholix Club for their views (which they kindly gave and very constructively too). Unfortunately, the next club date is not until 9th August and I would like to get this unit completed so I can submit it early next week. So, today I am asking for some feedback on this layout please.

What I asked the club members last time was these questions:
1. What do you think is the best feature of this layout?
2. What do you think about the colour combinations used?
3. If you were creating this layout, what would you have done differently?
4. Overall, is the patterned papers used, colour scheme, title, suitable for the photograph? - If no, please say why.

If you can spare a few minutes to answer these questions, I would be extremely grateful. If you don't want to leave your answer on this blog, just leave a message to say that you have emailed me your reply and I will enter your name into the blog candy draw (usual rules apply still). My email address is: ann@thescrapbookgarden.co.uk Thank you - your comments are appreciated.

To see what materials I used and what I did to create this layout - see page called Recipe Card - Baby Boy at the top of this page.

Guest Designer: A Zebra can't change his stripes

Another zoo themed layout from Liz. This time it features zebras (as well as Liz and her husband of course!). Liz has used Bazzill French Vanilla as the base for this layout and has doodled around the edges. The patterned papers are My Mind's Eye Market Street 'Happy Birthday' Tapestry and Liz has used both sides. The fantastic title is part of the K & Co. assorted title pack which co-ordinates with the K & Co. A-Z paper range. Thanks to Liz for sharing her creations with us this week. If you leave a comment I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for your chance to win a 'Quartet of Prima flowers' (a great prize). Thanks for stopping by.

Guest Designer: Animal Crackers

Liz created this fab layout of her dog 'Tilly' using Bazzill French Vanilla cardstock as the base. She has used My Mind's Eye Market Street 'Happy Birthday' Tapestry patterned paper and used both sides.
The reverse side has words printed on it and Liz has used 'Adore' from this sheet as a sub-title to this layout. The main title 'animal crackers' is from the K & Co. A-Z titles pack and goes really well with this paper. The other embellishments are from Liz's own stash.

If you leave a comment I will enter your name into the blog candy draw (rules apply). Thanks for stopping by and have a nice day!

Guest Designer: 'e'

Liz made this really lovely layout using K & Co. A-Z Words patterned paper, which suits this layout of a visit to Chester Zoo perfectly. 'e' (is for elephant) is the title and Liz used one of the 'e's from a Dovecraft Sparkles (Babe). Another way to use a title on your layout - it doesn't have to printed words! The base of this layout is Bazzill Avalanche Cardstock and Liz has doodled around the outside edge.
The grey elephant is actually a chipboard zoo animal from Tando Creative, which has been coloured using Pro Marker pens. A lovely summery layout depicting a day at the zoo. Thanks to Liz for creating this layout and sharing it with us. If you leave a comment I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for this month (rules apply). Best of luck!

Guest Designer: Memories

I was lucky enough to get a Guest Designer this week and her name is Liz Dunn. She is a member of the Boldon Scrapaholix Club and she agreed to do a few layouts for this month's blog.
Liz has kicked off her stint on The Scrapbook Garden blog by creating this super layout of her little girl using My Mind's Eye - So Sophie 'Sweet Chic' Splendid Swirl paper. This die-cut paper is so fantastically printed that you don't need to add much to make it fab.

Liz has added a journal card from So Sophie range and made her own bling swirl using ZVA self-adhesive embellishment gems in Pink. She has also added 3 Prima flowers (layered up and inked). Liz doesn't have her own blog but if you leave her a comment I will ensure she gets them. If you do leave a comment, I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for July. Best of luck!

Isn't this a lovely gesture - sending someone a card just to say 'Hi!'For this quick card Jules has used Glitz Design 'Love Games' Polka patterned paper (she used both sides), added a strip of Bazzil 'Just the Edge' cardstock (this is a fab product as it is so versatile), stamped an image of her own and added a Prima Craftable Flower, spritzed with spray ink. A change today from layouts. Jules has made this simple, but very effective 'Notes' book using Glitz Design 'Love Games' patterned paper (Floral). What a lovely gift this would make for someone (or just to keep yourself). The 'Notes' word is made from American Crafts Thickers and the Prima Craftable flower has been spritzed with shimmer mist and finished with an adhesive pearl.Jules has more info on how she made this little lovely over on her blog here

Design Team: Only Smiles Beyond this Point

This is my favourite so far this week from Jules! I just love this dog - she is a star! Jules has used Bazzill Dotted Swiss cardstock (Pepper) for the background to this lovely layout. The patterned papers are from Glitz Design 'Love Games' and are called - Stripe and Polka.Jules has added Bazzill 'Just the Edge' strip in Pepper along the bottom of the photograph (these packs contain several shapes and all are 12" in length). Tucked behind the photo are some MME 'Only Smiles' small accessories (tickets). The title (which is very apt) is another MME product - 'Only Smiles' Title. This layout shows you another way to use different products as titles.

Another job well done! If you want to see more of Jules' work - just go over to her blog If you leave a comment (and you qualify - see rules) I will enter your name into the blog candy draw for this month. The prize is a quartet of lovely Prima flowers. Good luck!

The striped paper is also from Glitz Design (from the same range) and is called (amazingly) 'Stripe'.Jules has used Bazzill 'Just the Edge' in Pepper along the bottom edge of the photograph. The title is made from American Crafts Thickers and some stickers from Jules' own stash. The flowers are made from a circle and heart punch and the centres are from the 'Thickers' pack as well.

The patterned papers are from Glitz Design - Love Games 'Floral'.The flowers are from Prima (Craftable and an assortment from Prima Essentials 10 'Melody') and match wonderfully with the Glitz patterned papers. Jules used a Tando Creative word - 'Us' for her title, which she covered in Glitz Design paper.

This month the DT have been given the brief of using different methods for their titles. Today's layout has used chipboard in the form of a Tando Creative word. The Bazzill 'Just the Edge' (Salt) strip has been inked with distress ink and compliments the colour of the music styled paper. The tag is made using a Tando Creative Music Mask inked with distress ink. The American Craft's Thickers (originally white) have been embossed with black embossing powder to give the look of patent leather dance shoes (how effective - and clever!). Jaqi used the Tapestry patterned paper for the base of this layout and layered up the Happy Birthday title tag with other similar tag shapes adding further to the title of this layout. The flowers (once again) are Prima Craftable Flowers, which Jaqi has inked with distress ink and stickles. The '21st' in the title are American Crafts Thickers (white), which Jaqi has inked to match. Design Team: Keep Smiling

Another lovely layout from Jaqi today. This time Jaqi has used Bazzill French Vanilla Cardstock for the base of her layout and patterned paper from Glitz Design 'Afternoon Muse' called Carte Postal (it is double-sided and Jaqi has used the other side). The colour combinations on this layout are lovely and fresh and the torn edges of the patterned paper add texture to the page. This time Jaqi has rubbed the American Craft Thickers (Jewlery Box White) with a distress ink pad to give it a 'broken look'. The flowers are from Prima and Jaqi added her own leaves. Some of the photo matting and die-cut hearts are papers from last month's Basic Grey 'Sweet Threads' paper pack (they go a long way!). Overall, a lovely, sweet layout.

Design Team: Smile Jaqi

This week we are showcasing the work of Jaqi Wright one of the Design Team here at The Scrapbook Garden. Jaqi will be showcasing her creations all week and she starts off with a little gem.

What a smasher! Jaqi has created this layout featuring a photograph of herself when she was nearly 3 (aww how cute Jaqi!). I love how she has created the background using half a sheet of Glitz Design 'Afternoon Muse' Polka 12" x 12" patterned paper. The other half of the layout she created herself by using sequin waste and inked the design onto a sheet of 12" x 12" Bazzill French Vanilla Cardstock. What a great job she has done!
Jaqi has used American Crafts Thickers (Jewelry Box in White) for her title, which she has inked and then rubbed on stickles to match her layout. A pretty layout for a pretty little girl! To get the full lowdown on how Jaqi created this lovely layout check out her blog here

Cancun

Another two layouts from the Scrapaholix Kit for July. This time I have used a 6x12 Page Element for this layout and layered a photo mat across it to add my photograph. The words 'out and about in' are words I found in an old scrapbooking book, which I cut out and stuck on as part of my title. The word 'Cancun' is cut on the Cricut.I added some Prima flowers (these are from the Essentials 10 Melody Collection) and used a Bazzill In'Stichz template for the leaves. I love the stitching effect on layouts as it gives a lovely texture to your pages.

In this final layout I added another Tando Creative chipboard Compass. The arrow I handcut and I made a circle from some left-over cork from a previous kit to make an embellishment with destination details. The other embellishments are cut from the remainder of the photo mat elements.

Please leave a comment to say you have visited and I will enter your name into the Blog Candy draw (see rules of entry) for your chance to win the Prima Floral Quartet! Best of luck!

MEXICO

This is the first two layouts I managed to create using this month's Scrapaholix Kit. The technique this month is using the brand new Simple Stories Collection - 'Destinations' that includes 4x4 Quotes, 2x12 Border & Title strips, 6x12 Page Elements.I made two fairly straightforward layouts to showcase photographs I had of Mexico taken a few years ago. The colours of this range are perfect for a lot of different holiday destinations.

I admit to adding a Tando Creative chipboard shape in the form of the compass as I like how it adds some dimension to the layout. I have two more layouts to show tomorrow with these photo mat elements.

Thanks for stopping by. Please leave a comment and I will enter your name into our BRAND NEW BLOG CANDY DRAW for this month (rules apply).
